The coalition's "Real Learning for Real Life" campaign has produced materials and videos to help parents and the public learn about and understand the move to higher expectations. Partnership for Learning and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction are leading the awareness campaign with the help of partner organizations.
We know Common Core is of high interest to ESN members and we are scheduling a meeting to talk about efforts within the coalition to build awareness and understanding. We encourage ESN members and individuals to join the growing supporters list for the campaign. With anti-Common Core sentiment building throughout the nation, and even in our state, we need to show a united front on the importance of raising expectations for all students.
The K-12 Common Core standards are being fully implemented in our state's schools this year and aligned Smarter Balanced exams are being field tested in specific districts. The Seattle Times recently wrote about the importance of parents understanding the move to the standards. Also, see a recent blog item by Partnership for Learning on why our state needs to raise expectations of students.
Ready Washington has produced a handout (translated in six languages), brochure, PowerPoint and poster for use by schools and parents. In addition, the campaign will soon release more videos about Common Core, in addition to ones already released featuring 2013 National Teacher of Year Jeff Charbonneau.
Ready Washington launched a Facebook page where it will share videos, news articles and infographics on Common Core. Also, please follow the campaign on Twitter and on YouTube.
