The ESN Policy Task Force will work this summer to develop the Coalition's 2014 policy priorities. Our goal is to have a strong draft of the policy priorities to present to the full coalition at our next ESN Quarterly meeting on September 6. Excellent Schools Now members and legislators celebrated the end of a successful legislative session July 9 with “Wins for Kids,” an event that highlighted this year’s victories for Washington’s children. More than 75 ESN members joined state Representatives Pettigrew, Hunter, Kagi, Maxwell, and Seaquist, as well as Senators Dammeier, Fain, Hill, and Tom at the Seattle McKinstry Innovation Center.
This session legislators passed a two-year state budget that invests $1 billion more in K-12 education with an intense focus on dedicated the resources to close the opportunity and achievement gaps. ESN priority legislation that passed this session included supports for persistently failing schools, Academic Acceleration, literacy, and STEM education.
